BIO
Thabisa is an international star. A South African native now residing in New Haven, Connecticut, Thabisa is a dynamic singer/songwriter who rocks the stage with every performance. Her sultry sound ranges from raspy transitions as though delivered by Janis Joplin to hip like chops as if Erykah Badu was her conductor on stage to smooth operator like Sade while always and without fail connecting back to her roots by channeling Miriam Makeba aka Mama Africa. Thabisa is more than a songstress, she is a unique sound not yet defined - an experience not to be missed.
Thabisa is making a name for herself with her energy, charisma, and incredible voice. "Sweet Sorrow" recorded in 2020 draws on lived experiences - past and present - and showcases her unique approach to music, inspiring the creation of a third album.
This upcoming album will feature a wide range of sounds, from Afro-soul, jazz afro-beat and will highlight her creativity and storytelling. Her EP in the works is called Petrichor - the smell that emanates from the ground after the rain - and is an exploration of her growth and becoming as an artist and as a person.
When not in the studio or on the stage, Thabisa is busy working on projects aimed at community betterment. Thabisa currently sits on the board at CT Folk and has worked closely with numerous local schools and nonprofits, encouraging us to learn from the incredible people and cultures that are all around us. In 2021, Thabisa launched her own nonprofit, Rich Arts Collective, as a way of "building bridges of human understanding and connectivity using music, art, and performances."
